    Hip Hop for Palestine: Interview with Abeer Alzinaty

    Abeer Alzinaty is a Hip-Hop artist, writer and storyteller. Born to a Palestinian family inside the Israeli borders Abeer learned to express herself through her art, performing R&B in Arabic and English. Since 2000 Abeer has participated in various initiatives to support Palestinian children. With two other local Arab Guerilla ladies she founded a youth club: “Future Seekers,” in their hometown of Lyd to provide children with a place to play and grow. She has also worked in East Jerusalem in the Israeli women’s Lobby, as a mentor to young women.

    Under The Olive Tree: Remi Kanazi performs a poem

    Poets for Palestine was published to unite a diverse range of poets, spoken word artists, and hip-hop artists who have used their words to elevate the consciousness of humanity. Sixty years after the dispossession of the Palestinian people, this anthology presents forty-eight poems alongside original works by Palestinian artists. All proceeds from the sale of this collection will go toward funding future cultural projects that highlight Arab artistry in the United States.

    MEY: Interview with Sameh Habeeb about the Gaza Concert 2008

    Gaza Concert is an event bringing inspiration for many Gazan singers who are eager to speak out and tell their stories by singing and music. The event aims to bring upon musicians and singers from different parts of Palestine to sing for unity, peace and justice. In spite of all the sufferings, the hopeful event aims to revive the Palestinian spirit by music from Gaza to the whole world.

    Sameh Habeeb is one of the organizers and he discusses discuss what the Gazan concert stands for, description of the performers, organizers, and sponsors, whether or not music is a powerful way to spread such messages and the disappointment in lack of Western coverage and frustration with stereotypes.

    Joe Sacco discusses his new book with Leonard Lopate

    Cartoonist-reporter Joe Sacco, presents a sweeping, original investigation of a forgotten crime in Rafah, a town in the Gaza Strip that has been a notorious flashpoint for conflicts. His book Footnotes in Gaza, is a graphic of a 1956 incident that left 111 Palestinians dead, shot by Israeli soldiers—seen from different perspectives. Leonard Lopate speaks to Joe Sacco.

    CKUT: Interview with Rafeef Ziadah

    Rafeef Ziadah is a third-generation Palestinian refugee, community organizer, and one of the most captivating spoken word artists currently working in Toronto. She recently released a CD of her works, “Hadeel”, which also features music from other notable Toronto musicians such as LAL and Reena Katz. Ziadah speaks about her album, “Hadeel” and the socio-political themes which drive her poetry, such as migration, war, and of course, the return to Palestine. This interview is interspersed with some of the pieces from “Hadeel”, such as “Montreal Subway” and “Trail of Tears”.

    Cracked and Shriking Maps: An Interview with Palestinian Artist Suleiman Mansour

    Suleiman Mansour is one of Palestine’s most renowned painters. Active in the Palestinian artist community since the 1970s, he has contributed greatly to art education and promotion in the West Bank. He is a co-founder of the Wasiti Art Center in Jerusalem, and is also a member of the “New Vision” artist group, which focuses on the use of local material in artwork.

    On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba in 2008, Suleiman Mansour was interviewed at the Palestinian International Academy of Art in Ramallah about the struggles of Palestinian cultural producers over the decades, and what the significance of art is in the face of this historic milestone.
