  • Peace Talks: The Free Gaza Movement; setting sail to Gaza in May 2008

    George Cadman speaks to Dr. Paul Larudee, co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement, on plans to set sail from Cyprus to Gaza in May of 2008.

    The Free Gaza Movement’s mission is to break the siege of Gaza. They want to raise international awareness about the prison-like closure of the Gaza Strip and pressure the international community to review its sanctions policy and end its support for continued Israeli occupation. They want to uphold Palestine’s right to welcome internationals as visitors, human rights observers, humanitarian aid workers, journalists, or otherwise.

    Dr. Paul Larudee is Co-Founder of the Free Gaza Movement. He is a former Ford Foundation supervisor in Lebanon, a Fulbright-Hays lecturer to Lebanon, and a former contracted US govt. advisor to Saudi Arabia. He participates in Palestinian nonviolent resistance with the International Solidarity Movement.

    George Cadman interviews Professor Stephen Zunes about current Palestinian/Israeli peace negotiations.

    Dr. Stephen Zunes is a Professor of Politics at the University of San Francisco, where he has taught since 1995. He serves as an advisory committee member and Middle East editor for the Foreign Policy in Focus Project and as an associate editor of Peace Review. He is the author of scores of articles for scholarly and general readership on Middle Eastern politics, U.S. foreign policy, international terrorism, social movements, and human rights. He is the principal editor of “Nonviolent Social Movements” and the author of the highly-acclaimed “Tinderbox: U.S. Middle East Policy and the Roots of Terrorism” and the forthcoming “Western Sahara: Nationalism and Conflict in Northwest Africa”.

Phyllis Bennis is Co-founder of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, an Institute For Policy Studies Fellow focusing on the New Internationalism: The Middle East and United Nations Affairs, and a Fellow at the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam. She is also the author of many books including, “Calling The Shots: How Washington Dominates Today’s UN” and ” Challenging Empire”.

    Jeff Halper on the occupation, house demolition, and politics

    George Cadman of Free Radio Santa Cruz interviews Jeff Halper about the Israeli government’s policy of demolishing Palestinian homes and how that policy fits into the overall Occupation of Palestine. Also discussed was the viability of the “two-state solution”, the U.S. connection to Israeli government policy, the Jewish Voices For Peace Conference in Oakland, Ca on April 28-29 (where he was a featured speaker), and his upcoming talk in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.

    Jeff Halper is the Coordinating Director of the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions (ICAHD), a distinguished author, internationally acclaimed speaker, and an Israeli peace activist for over 30 years. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and is the author of Obstacles to Peace (2005). ICAHD is a non-violent, direct-action group originally established to oppose and resist Israeli demolition of Palestinian houses. It is comprised of members of many Israeli peace and human rights organizations and works closely with local Palestinian organizations.

    Nasser Abufarha on Fair Trade/Organic in Palestine

    George Cadman of Free Radio Santa Cruz interviews Nasser Abufarha about Fair Trade/Organic in Palestine. Nasser Abufarha is the the Chair of the Palestine Fair Trade Association and the Director of Canaan Fair Trade based in Jenin, Palestine.

    The Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA) is a national Palestinian union of farming and producing cooperatives, traders, and processors based in Jenin that promotes and supports fair and equitable trading principles. These principles are developed locally by PFTA and are compatible with international fair trade principles and in sync with Palestinian traditions. Furthermore PFTA is active in promoting fairly produced Palestinian products in international fair trade markets in Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan.

    Canaan Fair Trade products are produced by the cooperatives of the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA). PFTA is a national Palestinian union of farming and producing cooperatives, traders, and processors based in Jenin that promotes and supports fair and equitable trading principles. PFTA promotes producing co-operatives such as olive oil, honey, couscous, sun-dried tomatoes, almonds, wild flower seeds, and crafts. The largest are the olive oil producing cooperatives.
