Jamal Juma’a is the coordinator of the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, based in East Jerusalem. As a human rights activist and advocate of the non-violent civil society campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), he was arrested Wednesday, December 16, 2009, becoming yet another Palestinian to be recently imprisoned by Israel in response to BDS advocacy activity. He along with Mohammad Othman and Abdallah Abu Rahma are among those who have been targeted in the last few months by Israel’s attack on Palestinian human rights defenders.
In this interview, Jamal addresses how to build the growing BDS campaign, linking BDS tangibly to other struggles for social justice, the origins of the BDS campaign prior to it’s official in 2005, as well as Israeli Apartheid Week activities in Palestine itself.
