This week on Crossing The Line: The games of the 29th Olympiad kicked off on 8-8-08 in Beijing China, amongst the participating countries is Israel who — although they claim to be the only democracy in the Middle East – have no Arab or Palestinian representation, sportswriter, activist and author Dave Zirin will join us to speak about the Beijing games, sports and politics and whether or not Israel should be banned from international competition.
Also this week, last summer a group called, The Palestine Media Collective produced a parody of the Vancouver Sun. Six months later, Mordecai Briemberg was charged with producing the parody and committing a commercial violation of trademark; we’ll hear an interview conducted by Jane Williams of the Red-Eye collective with Brian Campbell of The Seriously Free Speech Committee about the case.
And finally, 3 Fulbright scholars from Gaza have been told by the US consulate in Jerusalem that they will not be allowed to enter the United States after the consulate was informed of new information regarding the students. Former Fulbright Scholar, activist and author Anna Baltzer will join us to talk about the decision.
This program was produced by Crossing The Line for August 15, 2008.
