    December 6th, 2009 | Politics & Law | | Comments »

The Jerusalem Fund’s 2009 Annual Conference was held in Washington D.C. last month. This year’s theme was “The Erasure of Palestine.”

The conference’s first panel was chaired by Ms. Nadia Hijab, and featured Dr. Leila Farsakh, Ms. Jennifer Loewenstein and Ms. Phyllis Bennis. The discussion focused on the concepts of “one state” and “two state” solutions and what it really means to attain Palestinian liberation, why internationals must travel to Gaza, the burying of the Goldstone Report, and how the notion of statehood is changing.

Real News: First new West Bank settlement in ten years?

    September 1st, 2008 | Occupation News | | Comments »

Phyllis Bennis on a two-state solution: “From what I saw in this trip to the West Bank, I would say that if it’s not already impossible, it is so close as to be virtually the same. The division of Palestinian land within the West Bank, has divided the West Bank, as have the series of roads that connect settlements but bypass Palestinian villages, towns, refugee camps. The checkpoints—imagine 567 checkpoints, according to the United Nations, in this tiny territory the size of the US state of Delaware. It’s insane.”

Real News: Abu Dis – A Divided City

    August 25th, 2008 | Occupation News | | Comments »

Phyllis Bennis: “There were negotiations going on between Israelis and Palestinians back in 2000, then-prime minister Barak, Ehud Barak, offered to the Palestinians, who of course were demanding, appropriately, that their capital of their Palestinian state should be in the Palestinian city of East Jerusalem. And instead, Barak said, of course, we can’t allow that to happen, but we’ll let you have your capital in Abu Dis. We’ll even let you call it Al-Quds, which is Arabic for Jerusalem.”
